How to Get a Great Headshot Without the Stress (Rochester, NY Headshot Photographer)
If you're reading this, you're probably at a point in your life or career where you know it’s time for a professional headshot, but maybe you're feeling unsure about how the process works, how much time it takes, or whether it’s even worth it.
I get it.
I've been photographing headshots in Rochester, NY for over 11 years, and in that time, I've worked with people from all walks of life: corporate professionals, artists, musicians, authors, small business owners, and folks just looking to level up their LinkedIn or dating profiles.
Getting a great headshot doesn’t have to be a big production. It can be quick, comfortable, and surprisingly affordable, especially when you’re working with someone who’s done this hundreds of times before.
What to Expect From a Headshot Session
Some of my clients are in and out in five minutes, while others take a bit longer to warm up in front of the camera. Either way, I tailor the session to your pace and needs. Whether you're a startup founder who wants something sleek and sharp for your website, or a grad student updating your LinkedIn after landing that first big job, I’ve got you.
Sessions take place at my studio in Rochester, where I control the lighting and background to make sure you look your absolute best. Most clients choose a white, black, or light gray background, but we can customize based on your preferences. If you'd prefer an outdoor location or need me to come to your office for a team shoot, that’s totally doable too.
Cost and What’s Included
My baseline rate for headshot sessions is $175, which covers the session itself and one professionally retouched photo of your choice. Need more? Additional retouched images are $75 each.
Every image you select will be hand-retouched by me using techniques I’ve honed through years of experience and training with photographers like Dani Diamond, Michael Woloszynowicz, and Jake Hicks.
My goal is to deliver photos that are polished, flattering, and most importantly—still look like you.
Once editing is complete (usually within a week), I’ll send you a private online gallery where you can download your images and even order prints, if you’d like.
Don’t Know What to Wear or How to Pose?
You're not alone. One of the most common questions I get is: What should I wear? I usually recommend solid colors—blues, greens, blacks—because they tend to photograph best. Avoid pastels or shirts with text or tight patterns, which can create visual noise on camera.
And if you're not sure how to pose? That’s my job. I’ll guide you through the entire process, making subtle tweaks so you look natural, confident, and at ease.
Have a blemish or worried about a stray hair?
Don’t stress.
Every final image you receive is carefully retouched. I can soften skin, even out tones, remove distractions, and adjust anything you'd like. Just let me know what you're hoping for, and we’ll make it happen.
When Should You Book?
In general, a week’s notice is ideal, but feel free to reach out; I sometimes have last-minute openings. I also offer evening and weekend availability to accommodate busy schedules. Just shoot me a message and we’ll find a time that works!
Who Books Headshots?
People come to me for headshots when they're starting a new job, launching a business, graduating, updating their online presence, or refreshing their personal brand. And yes—some come in for dating profile pictures. (Though that tends to be a slightly different, more involved session.)
The point is: you don’t have to wait for the “perfect” reason. If you’ve been thinking about it, that’s your sign to go for it.
“Wonderful to work with — very professional and has a great eye. If you are looking for a headshot, team photos, or something more creative, he’s the one you want!”
